Technology doesn't like me
I was so excited to bring my new HP OfficeJet J4860 All-in-One home and hook it up. The black Friday sale at Office Depot was paid for with my rewards card, and it was a really great deal --- except the scanner won't work.
Technology really does not like me. My desk PC is no longer on life support; it is gone. I'm using my poor, very old laptop, which is old and tired (matches me, I guess), keeps on going.
Ish, now what do I do? I need the scanner option almost as much as the printing option. I tried to use the scanner for the first time this afternoon, and I get a message that the scanner is not found. I reinstalled the All-in-One, nothing difference.
If my poor little laptop can keep on going, doing major jobs that cause its arthritis to scream in pain, why can't my new printer/scanner/fax/copier do what it was made to do?
No, technology doesn't like me, unless, apparently, it's as aged as I am.
P.S. FAX doesn't work either. Ish.

Hmmm, I'm sure there's a tech support line you can call. They're usually pretty good at walking you through things. We have an HP that scans, prints, copies, and faxes, but I think we might have a different model. I'll ask him -- maybe he can help walk you through it. Not sure, but I can ask at least.
I had the same problem with my HP deskjet F4480. I took it back and the next one didn't work either. Suddenly, it began to work. I think they don't make stuff the way they used to. Very tempermental. Hope yours gets into a better mood. Definitely try Rena's suggestion of the tech support.
Me and technology have issues too. I want to get a new printer, one that is kind of like that. I have had my printer since I had my first laptop, back in 2003. It's starting to slow down a bit.
Hope you get things working.
Do you have any kind of photo editor on your computer? Sometimes the photo editor 'takes over' the scanner. I know photoshop did.
Technology is wonderful when it works but can be so frustrating when it doesn't! I agree that tech support can sometimes help you to try something different that works. Sure hope it can start working for you!
