Did you ever notice ...

For fun I searched the Internet for my name and 4RV Publishing.  Of course I used the search engine most preferred by Holly Jahangiri, the Queen of Google. I found Vivian Zabel with 4,770 hits and 4RV with 613. Not many considering Holly's name is listed something like 30,000 times, and her blog It's All a Matter of Perspective is one that is interesting and visited often by many people.

However some of the other things I noticed, besides the hits for my name and the company's, were the "advertisements" on the pages. 4RV Publishing is not an independent publishing house which charges authors to "publish" their books. It isn't a "self-publishing" entity that charges writers to do their books. It is a small press that does it all after accepting a submission. So what are the main "advertisements" (those who paid for their links at the top) on the pages with 4RV? Sponsored links included Publish America, Tate Publishing, Createspace, AuthorHouse, and Find Your Publisher. Hmmm ...

On pages that list hits for "Vivian Zabel," I found  Zable Beads, Zable Designer Jewelry, and Generous Gems, none which even had Zabel, much less Vivian Zabel. Searching  for "Vivian Gilbert Zabel," I found sponsored links for Zable Beads and Zable Designer Jewelry, again, but why Vivian Chandler? One surprising thing I found under Vivian Zabel is there is a Vivian Zabel in prison in a state where I've never lived. No, I've never been in prison anywhere.

Interesting what one can find when searching for one's self.

I think it's amazing how you not only do it all, but you do it all from prison!

*laugh* Uh, please read disclaimer: No, I've never been in prison anywhere.

Although, I had students when I taught that probably wished I were.

Wow, the interesting things you find when you do a search on yourself.

Kind of depressing to find all those self-publishers there. It's certainly interesting to play the Google game, and I was amazed I could still find chess stuff from back when I lived in England.

Interesting. I have the same name as a musician/cello player, so I'm sure she would come up a lot.

It's fun searching for your name on Google. If you searched through enough of your hits, I'm sure you would have came upon my blog, I've mentioned 4RV publishing before.

Jan, I've never searched that far, but I have received alerts about your blog mentioning the company or me. Thanks.

It is also nice that when searching for 4RV publishing a lot of the books published by 4RV show up.
It pays to promote 4RV*:)

I rarely search myself on Google since I found my picture on a porn site (fully clothed, I might add). You have to be so careful about what you say online. I found comments that I've made on what I thought were private forums, then discovered them afterward on the Internet.

Very interesting indeed. One never knows where our names will pop up in cyberspace!

I've seen those same advertisments on some other small press publications. It made me wonder...
